Free for All Friday No. 370

Are you a keeper or a culler? Do you sell binders that you're no longer using, or do you pack them away and treasure them?

Do you keep previous year's diaries -- even ones that you never used -- just in case you find a use for them?

Here's an idea: If you haven't finished your Christmas shopping, you can use them to make lists!

Of course, if you'd rather talk about planners than either plan or shop, this is the place!

  1. While archiving this year's planner, I noticed that I did not journal as much as I did previous years. It hit me that, without knowing, I tend to journal happy moments / memories but let the sad ones go undocumented. I know that I should write about unhappy moments as they may not be so bad when read later, etc... Also shed light on things... I find myself thinking, "I'll write it later when it's not so painful" then life happens and things come along so I never catch up to write down those memories. Whereas, happy ones are quickly jotted down since I want to make sure they don't slip away.

What about you? Do you find yourself journaling about everything or more happy than sad moments?

  2. I journal every day. Both the good and the bad. Previously I have never been able to journal, but the last 18 months I have been able to write in it every day. one thing that has helped me to do this is that I no longer have a separate book for my journal. I have about 15 pages I my planner that I use. I transfer them into storage weekly and replace with blank pages.

  3. I am a KEEPER! I use the shopping bag I received from a Filofax retail store in London in 2009 as the holder for all my old binders and diary inserts going back to the late '90s. Each binder has a special memory for me of whom gave it to me or what I was doing the year I used it.

I do not journal so much. I might just add a special place I dined or which of my cousins I spoke to.

  4. I keep binders I like and ones that have come from family. I don't keep used inserts. To me there's no point to me, especially when I journal as often as possible in bound journals.

  5. I just began journaling this year and I write about the wonderful moments and the days of struggle. I use daily prompts from life captured blog to get me started. It's been a good daily exercise for me.

  7. I am using a few months of my Filofax 2013 horizontal diary with appointments insert for 2016. The numerical dates are the same for November 2013 and April 2016. It is possible because Filofax prints only the month and year at the top and the number and week day on the days. I trimmed off the month and year. Other inserts are printed so that the month, day, and/or year are on the days which renders them inapplicable for a different year. I also have a Dayrunner one with lines. I can write the schedule on the Filofax insert and other information on the Dayrunner one. For 2016 my insert will consist of some months of my format and a few months of the 2013 inserts. I am glad that I can rely on these unused pages because paper is the last product I want to buy.

  8. I go between keeper and culler. It's a constant war!
I've kept my inserts from the last two years, and review them anytime I'm contemplating a switch to my setup.

For binders, I don't have unlimited income so if I want something new I have to sell something old. To keep myself honest, all purchases come from PayPal balance from selling. I have a Paypal debit card, so I can deposit cash gifts or cash from Craigslist sales, too.

But there are a few special binders I can't bring myself to sell - even if I haven't used them, ever. My Bloomsbury models fall in that group - I've never used the Pocket or Mini, but the colors and texture are so special, and the odds of finding them again are very low.
